1966 Fender Esquire - Dakota Red

Here is a very cool 1966 Fender Esquire! This one has had the body sprayed Dakota Red over top of the original White Blonde finish.

This is an ash body guitar with a rosewood fretboard and pearl dot inlays. The neck finish is original, as well as the tuners, string tree and logo. The neck has been refretted and the nut has been changed. The electronic components appear original beyond the mud cap which has been changed to a Sprague .0047uF. The guitar had a neck pickup at some point and a number of solder connections have been touched. The pickguard is not original.

This guitar was originally sold in the UK and only had only a couple of owners. It was oversprayed when sold new according to the previous owner. Beyond the body finish, guard and mud cap, the guitar is quite original and in very good condition.

It weighs in at 7lbs 4oz. The neck measures .820 to .920 at the 1st and 12th. It has a classic C profile neck that thickens subtly up the register, just like you'd expect from this era. The guitar is lively and resonant and truly plays great. The modification to the circuit is very musical and more usable than the original mud cap. In position three, with the added capacitor, it achieves a nasally tone not dissimilar to a treble boost or fixed wah sound.
