Product Description
Here we have a vintage 1956 Gretsch 6199 Convertible! This lovely hollow body archtop guitar is in very good condition overall.
Specs include a spruce top, maple body, maple neck, rosewood board, adjustable rosewood bridge, Grover Imperial tuners, G tailpiece, and gold hardware. It has a 17” lower bout, 25 1/4” scale length, and 1 5/8” nut width. It has a single DeArmond at the neck with floating controls mounted to a color matched plexi guard.
This one is in great shape for its age. There are some light buckle marks on the back, some faint dings, topical scratches and light checking. There is no major damage. The gold plating has worn mostly away, though it looks polished, not pitted. The bridge is original though the top is in the case and a replacement bridge is on the original base currently.
The guitar weighs 6lbs 6oz. The neck measures .880 to .970 at the 1st and 9th frets. We love the classic spruce top & maple body archtop specs. The guitar has a great acoustic tone and the DeArmond is a fantastic pickup for the neck position. This one definitely splits the difference between warm jazz tones and full rock sounds, plus the color way is really impressive.
Ships in a modern Gretsch case. It includes the original bridge, as well as vintage paperwork though the serial number on the OK Card does not match this particular 6199.
