Product Description
Here is a neat vintage Hofner 187 bass from the 1970s! This short scale model is in good overall condition.
Specs include a mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, block inlays, zero fret and a 23 fret fingerboard. It has open gear tuners, a black guard and a bolt-on neck. The scale length is 30” and the nut width is 1 11/16”. It has dual Hofner blade pickups.
This one has been refretted and the binding was cut at each fret slot to accommodate the wire. The back of the headstock shows some touch up around the tuning machines, which looks like it was done with marker. The Hofner logo on the guard is worn away but you can still see the silhouette. There is plenty of pick wear on the guard, as well topical scratches and light player wear. The hardware all shows a nice patina. One of the tone knobs is replaced.
This bass weighs in at 8lbs 3oz. The neck measures .860 to .970 at the 1st and 12th frets. It has a round fingerboard radius at about 6”, and a nice medium C neck profile. The pickups have a bit of a microphonic sound. The bridge has good clarity, a little reminiscent of a Jazz actually, while the neck pickup has a darker, woofier tone. It sounds great with a pick and produces a classic short scale thumping tone!
Ships in a padded gig bag.
