This is an early production example of the 594 model from PRS, with a great looking 10-Top. The curly maple is very tight and even across the top, about as good as it gets for flame maple, and is really set off by the burst finish. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is nice and dark across the length, with tight grain that gives a feel closer to ebony. This singlecut features the pattern vintage neck shape, which a bit thicker than most PRS neck profiles. The pickup set is the 58/15LT humbucker, a great sounding low output pickup that is based on the PAF. The pickups split with a push pull knob on the tone controls and, unlike many split coils, they sound nice and full and are very usable. Depending on the setting you can get a Strat like quality from the guitar and it works very well to clean up an overdriven amp with the flick of a switch. The PRS signature pearl bird inlays and Phase III locking tuners complete the package.

The 594 model started life as a limited edition that was put out as a "Guitar of the Month" for the 20th anniversary of the Private Stock. By popular demand PRS added the model to their core lineup. The model is Paul Smith's interpretation of a late 50s Les Paul. The name of the model comes from the scale length, which is 24.594", a feature that is based on Paul Smiths assertion that this is actual scale length on many of the 50s Les Paul models from his research and measurements of vintage instruments. The 58/15LT pickups, thicker body depth, and modified two piece bridge are the other developments that contribute to this style of build. In the intervening years the additions of soapbar, S2, and SE models have cemented this guitar as part of the PRS main line up.

The guitar is in excellent condition overall, given it is closing in on a decade in the world, with only some light signs of play wear and handling mainly on the body. There are two small dings on the top, one near the bridge volume and another just north of the neck pickup near the switch. There is a small chip in the finish at the binding just over the lower strap button. There is a good amount of light scratches in the clear coat, with pick wear just beneath the pickups. The other areas of light scratches are around the pickup selector and volume knobs. The hardware and pickup covers are developing a very pleasing amount of tarnish as well. The back has buckle rash and light scratches into the clear across the body, but nothing that is unsightly or through to the wood. All in all a guitar that's clearly been played, yet lovingly cared for. A good buff job from a qualified technician would likely restore it to a like new appearance.
