2009 PRS Custom 24 10-Top

The flagship model for PRS from 2009, with a killer flame maple top and a fine looking dark cherry sunburst. This is definitely one of the nicer 10-Tops that we've seen, possibly bordering on an Artist Pack grade or Wood Library had those programs been in place at the time. The figuring is very uniform and even across the top, even up onto the horns of the body, with a stellar book match. The Dark Cherry Sunburst is rich and vibrant, it really sets off this exceptional piece of maple

This guitar has some unique options that were available at the time. It has a blade switch, in place of the rotary switch that was standard then. The blade switch would become standard issue on the Custom line the following year. This one also has the outline birds for the fretboard inlay and a pattern wide thin neck shape.

The guitar is in overall great shape for its age and has a few modifications. The pickups were replaced with a set of 57/08 Bass and 59/09 Treble, with the bridge pickup being an uncovered version. The wiring harness is a well executed custom setup, with a three way switch and push/push pots for each control that split the pickups. The tone control has a Centralab .022uF oil filled capacitor and the pickups are wired out of phase in the middle position, getting some Peter Green out of this PRS. The out of phase set up is pretty interesting when used in conjunction with the split coils and tone control, it begins to near the VariTone Gibson circuit in its number of options and variations on the theme. The strap buttons have been replaced with Schaller strap locks, to ensure it stays attached to your strap through any conditions.

The guitar shows only minimal play wear and signs of handling. There is scratching and surface swirl in the clear coat throughout, but most predominantly on the back. The hardware is fairly well tarnished in a way that is pleasing, specifically the bridge and pickup cover. The back shows two dings along the lower edge and one on the upper edge near the belly contour. There is a ding on the bass side of the neck at the first fret, another on the rear of the headstock on the bass side on the edge just below the low "E" tuner, and another on the from of the headstock on the tip of the contour near the high "E" tuner. There is no fret wear whatsoever and it setup beautifully.
