Dreadnought Used Acoustic Guitar
with Adirondack Spruce Top, Brazilian Rosewood Back and Sides, Mahogany Neck, Ebony Fingerboard, 28-Style Herringbone Top Purfling - Natural Finish
Product Description
2019 Pre-War Herringbone with an Adirondack Spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood side & back
A stunning 28 style replica from the small batch production at Pre-War guitars. The top is torrefied Adirondack Spruce, which has a beautiful toner that accurately replicates the look of an aged finish and soundboard. The sides and back are a beautiful set of Brazilian rosewood with nice straight grain. There is a nice amount of variation in the hue of the rosewood, from the deep dark tones along the back purfling to the more reddish hue on the lower bouts of either side. This set is very reminiscent of the look of rosewood seen on so many of the most desirable dreadnoughts from the 1930s. The top purfling is the timeless herringbone, which gives the model its name, with the equally classic 5/9/5 soundhole rosette. The body is bound in grained ivoroid with the heel cap to match, a binding material that has curiously become more rare over the last few years. The aged tortoise shell pickguard has a very convincing vintage look and an ebony belly bridge top off the classic aesthetics of this dreadnought. The unbound ebony fretboard is adorned with the unmistakable diamond and squares pattern leading up to the Brazilian rosewood headstock veneer. The back of the headstock wears the stamp of the maker as well as a set of vintage style Gotoh tunes tuner and the iconic diamond headstock volute.
This instrument has received the distress level 1 treatment from PreWar Guitars. The aging is very subtle and tastefully executed. There are a few spots of light lacquer checking on the top and headstock veneer that look very convincing. The sides and back feature a few areas of short, straight lacquer checks that are somewhat aligned with the grain and also very natural looking. The entire finish is a beautifully dull style and the antiquing on the binding make for a complete vintage look.
The guitar is currently set up with a fresh set of 12-53 phosphor bronze strings and plays wonderfully. The neck is a full profile with a comfortable soft V shape that rounds out towards the cowboy chords. The tone is very much of the quality you might expect of a builder of this caliber working with materials of this class. It is extremely well balanced across the range with plenty of volume on tap, although the tone does not diminish when played lightly or fingerstyle. There is a wide amount of dynamic range available to the player with added versatility when using different pick materials, fingers, or fingernails.
