Product Description

This is an early steel-string Martin from 1925. This 000-28 features the then-correct 12-fret body, an adirondack spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, and ebony bridge. The guitar is in excellent overall condition.

The instrument appears to be all original including the pyramid rosewood bridge and small maple bridge plate. The scalloped x-brace is a touch heavier than others of the era indicating it can support steel strings. There is one back crack on the lower edge that has been expertly repaired.

This is about the finest example of a 12-fret 28-style guitar that you'll find. It sounds excellent like most every Martin from the period. It is a touch boomier and less direct sounding than a 14-fret version, but clear, warm, and round nonetheless. It sound wonderful played quiet and intimately, as well as played more boldly. From fingerstyle to flat picking, this guitar handles anything you throw at it.

Ships in the original hardshell case, aslo in excellent condition. On the outside of the case is a piece of tape labeled "Mike Longworth". We are unsure of the ownership or provenance on this instrument, but the name Mike Longworth is well-known in Martin circles, Mr. Longworth having literally wrote the book on Martin guitars, and having been a long-time Martin employee and pearl inlay master.
