Traditional Open-Pore Lacquer Finishes Iris guitars utilize a thin, satin open-pore nitrocellulose lacquer finish that fundamentally enhances the instrument's acoustic property. By skipping the heavy pore-filling and buffing stages common in high-gloss manufacturing, the tonewoods remain light, unrestricted, and highly resonant. This minimal finish allows the soundboard to vibrate freely, generating a remarkably immediate response with a clear, dry, and woody tone that mirrors the voice of a naturally broken-in vintage acoustic.
Hand-Fitted Utility Componentry Every hardware choice on an Iris guitar is engineered for mechanical reliability and optimal tonal transfer. The bridge pins are meticulously machined with a precise 3-degree taper and hand-fitted individually to the bridge during final assembly, ensuring stable string anchoring and eliminating energy loss at the soundboard. Coupled with classic open-gear Golden Age Relic tuners, the hardware package pairs mid-century aesthetic charm with precise, modern tuning stability that holds up under heavy playing demands.
Precision Neck Adjustments and Architecture
Built to navigate the realities of shifting regional climates, Iris implements a dual-action truss rod system accessible directly through the soundhole on the neck block. This enables easy, precise adjustments using a standard 4mm wrench to maintain consistent action and neck relief over years of ownership. This internal structural stability supports their distinct neck profiles, giving players a reliable foundation whether they favor the modern comfort of their full-flavored full C-shape neck or the historic feel of their robust Modified V geometry.
Minimalist Depression-Era Aesthetic
The design philosophy of Iris centers on functional elegance, explicitly channeling the stripped-down, utilitarian aesthetic of depression-era flattops. By eliminating non-essential cosmetic appointments like intricate abalone rosettes, multi-layered body bindings, and glossy pore fillers, the focus shifts entirely to structural craftsmanship and tonal integrity. The result is a simple, no-nonsense workhorse instrument featuring bold sunburst variants and clean lines that look, feel, and sound completely authentic on stage and in the studio.
