Product Description

Here we have a really nice vintage Guild CE-100 DP hollow body electric guitar from 1961. This double pickup model is in very good condition overall.

Specs include a maple body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, rosewood bridge and harp tailpiece. It has block inlays with a bound neck, open gear tuners, and vintage narrow tall fret wire. It’s loaded with a set of Franz P-90 pickups.

The guitar is really in great shape for its age. The finish shows nice weather checking across the body and the guitar has a light patina about it. There are a handful of light topical scratches and scuffs across the instrument as well as a few minor paint chips. The frets are in good shape with a little light wear down low in the usual spots. Interestingly, this guitar never had a pickguard installed. There are guide marks on the body, but no actual mounting holes. Also, the bridge pickup volume knob is era-correct but labeled “Tone”.

This one weighs 6lbs 4oz. The neck measures .870 to .950 at the 1st and 9th. It has a medium C shaped neck profile that isn’t too big and stays consistent in depth up until the neck heel transition. The guitar has a great sound with a warm low end and crisp highs. It has good acoustic volume with colorful overtones and excellent clarity. The pickups are smooth and articulate, a wonderful pairing for a hollow body guitar and befitting of the music of the time.

It ships in the original hardshell case which features mementos from its travel, including branding from the New Zealand rock band The Four Fours. Though no documentation is included, it appears this instrument may have spent time in the band’s stable.
