Semi hollow Vintage Electric Guitar
with Mahogany Body, Mahogany Top, Mahogany Neck, Western Motif Inlays, G-Branded Top, Tooled Leather Edges, Dual DeArmond Dynasonic Pickups - Western Orange Finish
Product Description
Here we have a wonderful vintage Gretsch Roundup! This guitar is model 6130-V, built in Brooklyn, NY in 1955. The -V on the interior label is handwritten and refers to the Bigsby Vibrato tailpiece.
Features include a mahogany body, mahogany top, mahogany neck, and rosewood fingerboard. The guitar is ornately appointed with a G branded into the top, studded tooled leather around the body edge, western motif inlays, steer head headstock inlay, and steer head engraved into the pick guard. It has a set of DeArmond Dynasonic pickups, four arrow knobs, and a 3-way switch. The bridge is a rosewood base with an aluminum Bigsby saddle on top. The guitar is traditionally known as a solid body instrument, but is essentially semi-hollow with a tone chamber inside.
The neck has been reset on the guitar utilizing the later style screw/dowel neck heel joint. The neck set area shows overspray touch up. The Bigsby tailpiece is certainly from the era, and is a rare gold unit that appears to be factory original to the guitar. There is also an original belt buckle tailpiece included. The guitar shows signs of having multiple tailpieces fitted to it over the years. The original pickguard has disintegrated and is included in a zip lock bag. The current pickguard is a reproduction. It has been refretted and the heel cap is replaced.
Beyond the neck set touch up, the finish is original. The pickups and electronic components appear original though the solder connections are touched up and a little messy. The tuners, knobs and hardware appear to be original. There are no breaks. The guitar shows light wear, checking, and dings over its surface. The back body edges are well-worn, and there are dings and wear on the back of the neck.
The guitar weighs 7lbs 6oz. The neck measures .810 to .955 at the 1st 12th. It has a very nice medium C shape neck that isn't too big or too narrow. The guitar plays easily up and down the neck. It has a nice resonance throughout the body with a touch of natural reverb. It growls acoustically when you dig in too. The pickups are strong and bold. The guitar is extremely twangy plugged in and has a phenomenal sound. These old Gretsch models can be a little janky, but this one feels solid with some necessary work already performed.
Ships in the original Gretsch tweed case. Includes an original belt buckle tailpiece and the remnants of the original pickguard.
