Hollow body Vintage Electric Guitar
with Maple Body, Maple Neck, Ebony Fretboard, Bigsby Vibrato Tailpiece, Dual Filter'tron Pickups - Western Orange Finish
Product Description
Here is a wonderful 1962 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins Hollowbody! This is the thinline version with symmetrical cutaways and simulated F holes.
Specs include a hollow maple body, maple neck, and ebony fretboard. The guitar has parallel top braces internally, and a small hatch on the back beneath the smooth black pad for internal access. It has a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece and smooth bar bridge. It has a set of Filter'tron pickups, 3-knob 2-switch electronics setup, and a new to this model version standby switch. It also features a string muffler which is engaged mechanically by screwing down the extra knob.
This one is in wonderful shape. It's clearly been played but well-loved by its previous owner. The guitar looks to be all original. A few of the screws for the white plate beneath the back pad are missing. Internally all of the electronics and the muffler system appear to be original. The neck set looks good. The frets have probably been dressed before, but look nice with plenty of life. The binding shows some cracks from shrinking but is mostly stable. There are a couple pieces of binding in the neck joint that are lifting subtly.
The guitar appears to have had a strap button installed at the apex of the treble side cutaway, we presume for a left handed player. This filled strap button hole appears to be the only modification to the instrument. Though there is some natural play wear easily visible on the neck and metal parts, there are no major dents or damage. There is checking, light dings and light scratch visible upon closer inspection.
This one weighs 7lbs 7oz. The neck measures .820 to .990 at the 1st and 10th frets. It has a slim C shape profile that fattens quickly as it transitions into the neck heel. The guitar is mellow and warm yet still vibrant acoustically with a nice natural reverb from the hollow body. It plays great up and down the neck and sets up quite well. The pickups are bold without being aggressive, and have a nice sparkle to the top end. A great example overall!
Ships in the original hardshell case.
