Description

Here we have a cool vintage 1960 Gibson Les Paul Junior! This one has been refinished and restored by Tom Murphy.

Specs include a mahogany body, mahogany neck, and rosewood fretboard. This double cutaway body instrument has a single P-90 pickup, wraparound bridge, strip tuners with white buttons, and a tortoise guard.

The guitar comes with a hand-written and signed letter from Tom Murphy on Guitar Preservation letterhead outlining his work. He states that the guitar does not appear to have had any breaks or structural issues. The finish is correct to the original era, the ink serial number has been restamped and the headstock logo and Les Paul signature are re-silkscreened. The work looks like factory Gibson finish.

The electronics appear to be original components. The parts look correct except the bridge which appears to be a modern aged nickel part and the strap buttons which appear newer. The solder joints have been touched as the electronics would have been removed for the restoration. The guitar has a hint of VOS patina about it and there are a number of small dings and surface marks all over it. Though the letter does not speak of "aging" the guitar has enough dings and wear that we feel it was made to look old at the time of the refin. The frets appear to be original and show wear in the normal areas. The 15th fret inlay looks like a replacement.

This one weighs 7lbs 5oz. The neck measures .930 to 1.000 at the 1st and 12th. It has a full, rounded feel, more like a '59 neck profile without too much shoulder. The guitar is lively and resonant with a classic Junior sound. The pickup is strong with a good bite to the midrange and nice articulation. Overall a fantastic player.

Ships in a non-original hardshell case that has some graffiti-style paint and stickers on it. Includes a letter and envelope from Guitar Preservation signed by Tom Murphy.
