Gibson Les Paul Custom 1978 - Wine Red

Solid body Vintage Electric Guitar - Wine Red Finish

Product Description

Here we have an immaculate 1978 Les Paul Custom from Gibson! This vintage electric guitar is in excellent condition overall, a real time capsule for being over 45 years old. This one hails from the 3-piece top and neck era, with a one piece mahogany body, and an ebony board. The guitar has a volute and a very faint Made in USA stamp. It appears to be all original.

We're blown away by the condition and overall look of this one. It's not mint, but does look minty from certain angles. The color is rich and vibrant, in a way appearing factory fresh. There is light wear to the gold plated parts, the pickguard shows pick marks, and there are some light buckle impressions on the back. There are some very mild surface lines and scratches as well. The top color is a vibrant wine that in certain lights hints at walnut. The back of the body has a fairly rich looking deep cherry hue over the mahogany. This guitar feels like it was played for a short period of time, even gigged with, then just put away for 40 plus years.

It has a bold, hard, direct sound with a nice band of bass and a clear top end. Not much mid-range about it, and moderately resonant acoustically, but firm and clear as you might expect from this era. It feels good under the picking hand and the slimmer modern C neck is quite comfortable. It weighs 9lbs 14oz which again for the era is pretty nice. The neck measures .780 to .940 at the 1st and 10th. By the 12th fret it begins to blend into the heel and measures about 1.010. The original frets are flat and wide but in good condition.

If you're looking for a keeper in this color, or just one from this year, it's absolutely worth considering. Ships in a modern black and gray Gibson USA case.
