Here we have an incredible 1956 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty! This road warrior exudes a vibe, and sounds phenomenal.
It unfortunately has had a minor headstock repair. There is a faint v shaped crack visible below the finish that has been expertly repaired. The area has also been touched up with black lacquer. This appears to have been done long ago as the finish has worn and checked already. There are also a couple of small holes on the top behind the tailpiece that have been filled.
Beyond that, the pickguard, pickguard bracket, and strap buttons are modern Gibson replacement parts that have been aged and installed. The jack plate has been changed to a metal one. The tuning machine for the G string has a slightly different patina, but is correct to the era. One of the tuning machine screws is incorrect. There are also some additional holes hiding under the tuning machines, so apparently another set was on at some point. The guitar has been refretted with medium jumbo wire.
The electronics, knobs, bridge, tailpiece, truss rod cover, backplates and other tuning machines all appear correct and original. Beyond the headstock repair and holes behind the tailpiece, the finish appears correct.
The guitar is a real-life relic with the finish literally having been played off in many areas. This one is warm, woody, and punchy. It plays effortlessly with the larger wire. It has tons of resonance and sustain. Tonally, it doesn't leave anything to be desired. It weighs 9lbs 4oz. The neck measures .880 to 1.000 at the 1st and 12th. The profile is the full vintage Gibson C shape you'd expect to find from this year.
Overall a stellar player, and a great-looking piece if you like player-friendly gear. Ships in a Gibson Protector Case.
