Description

Here we have a beautiful 1955 Gibson ES-175D dual pickup natural vintage hollow body guitar. This one is fitted with a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece and bridge from the same era.

Specs include a laminate maple body, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard and parallel-o-gram inlays. It has keystone button Kluson tuners and a crown headstock inlay. The top is triple bound while the back and neck are single bound. It's loaded with dual dogear P-90 pickups, a 3-way selector switch, two volumes and two tone controls. It has a 24 3/4" scale length, 1 11/16" nut width, and a 16 1/4" lower bout width.

The guitar is in very good shape with a wonderful patina and light, honest wear. It was clearly loved and played extensively, but also well cared for. The Bigsby tailpiece and matching bridge appear to be from the same era and added very recently after the guitar was manufactured. The finish, electronics and other components all appear original. The original vintage fret wire shows some light wear down low but notes ring out true. There do not appear to be any breaks or repairs.

This one weighs 6lbs 8oz. The neck measures .930 to 1.020 at the 1st and 9th frets. It has a full vintage profile that is worn-in and quite comfortable to play. The guitar has a warm, round mid-range tone acoustically with a sparkly top end. It resounds easily and sounds opened-up with a nice amount of natural reverb emanating from deep within the body. The pickups are strong and bold with a touch of quack and treble chime. Overall a very cool versatile guitar that could run the gamut between intimate jazz tunes and some amped-up rockabilly.

Ships in the original Lifton case, also in very good condition.
