Description
Here we have a very special Gibson Custom Crimson L-4 Mahogany! This hollowbody archtop CES model is from 2021 and is in near mint condition.
Custom Crimson models are small batch or one-of-a-kind instruments produced by the Gibson Custom Shop which are so named due to the red tape that is affixed to each build as it passes through production. The L-4CES features a carved solid spruce top and a 16" wide body. The back and sides are solid mahogany, along with a mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard. It has dual '57 Classic pickups, a carved ebony bridge base, ABR-1 bridge, and L-5 style tailpiece with rosewood insert.
This guitar weighs 7lbs 2oz. The neck measures .820 to .900 at the 1st and 9th frets. It has a modern C neck shape without too much shoulder. It has a sweet and warm tone acoustically with loads of sustain. It's like an elevated ES-175 with much more depth and color. It's more intimate than a larger 17" maple guitar, but it is a nice hand-carved counterpoint with its own sound. An excellent addition to any archtop collection.
This guitar appears to have been case kept its entire life. There are a few faint surface marks and signs of handling, but ultimately it presents like new. Includes the original hardshell case, COA, and other paperwork.
