Here we have a super cool 1999 Gibson Custom Shop Firebird V in TV Yellow! This guitar is good shape overall with some upgraded parts.
Specs include a mahogany neck, mahogany body wings, rosewood fingerboard, trapezoid inlays and banjo tuners. The scale length is 24 3/4” with a 12” radius and 1 11/16” nut width. It has a stop tailpiece with an ABR-1 bridge and is loaded with dual Firebird pickups.
The tuners are original to the guitar, while the bridge, bridge inserts and tailpiece are Faber units. It has been refretted and has a new nut. The pickups are D’Urbano Magnetics, and the entire instrument was rewired at some point. The original switch, pots and jack are back in the guitar, but the capacitors are not original. The knobs and pickguard are also replacements. The original pickups are included, but unfortunately there is no resistance reading on them.
The finish is original and there are no breaks. There is some light checking on the guitar, notably around the headstock. There are a few light areas of buckle wear on the back with some minor wear around the control cavity. There are a handful of small dings and topical scratches across the guitar, but no major damage.
The guitar weighs 8lbs 3oz. The neck measures .800 to .930 at the 1st and 10th frets. It has a nice, medium C ‘60s profile that isn’t too thin down low, but fills out nicely as it transitions into the neck heel. The guitar truly rips and sounds fantastic. It has a warm and woody midrange with a glassy top end. It’s resonant and colorful, and really just a joy to play. It has some honest wear, and clearly belong to someone on a tone quest, but also looks to have been loved and played for good reason.
Ships in the original hardshell case. It includes the original tortoise guard, original pickups, original Nashville bridge and tailpiece.
