Product Description

2018 Gibson Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Standard

A nicely figured example of the double ringed, slim necked, reflector knob'd sibling to the '59. The flame on this R0 is uniform across the top, with lots of movement, and tightly ribboned curly maple. It has the look of Eastern hard rock maple with plenty of grain pattern and flecking showing through the figure, this one certainly shares the look with many of the flame top vintage examples. The beautiful maple is accentuated by the Factory Burst finish, which was developed to look like a guitar fresh off of the factory line before the bursts faded into the variety of hues seen today. The burst is very vibrant with lots of the red the earned the name cherry burst. The gradient is very nice and the orange'y yellow of the center is very deep and rich, this one is a true testament to the skill of the finishing department at the Custom Shop.

At this moment in Custom Shop production they had reached the zenith of Historic replica Les Pauls. The guitar features a complete hide glue construction, the VOS nitrocellulose finish, Custombucker pickup set, tubeless truss rod, nylon nut, holly headstock veneer, "no wire" ABR-1 bridge, and all the aesthetic minutiae so admired by Les Paul aficionados. The specs that set the 1960 reissue apart from its older siblings are the double ring Kluson tuners, reflector knobs, and the thin neck profile that would become the standard years later. The aniline back dye and antiquing on the binding of this one really drive home the vintage appeal.

This 60 is in great condition with just a few spots of play wear and signs of handling. There are pick marks in the top between the fretboard extension and the switchwasher, as well as the space between the pickups. The pickup rings are well worn, with a good amount of discoloration on each. There is a ring of lacquer checking around the bridge volume control that reaches out towards the neck volume and bridge tone. There is a straight line of checking off of the neck tone control and two nearly vertical, light scratches coming off of the pickguard and between the bridge volume and tone. The back has a cluster of small dings approximately centered on the body, just south of the waist. The edges and headstock are very clean, with just a couple of dings on the very top edge of the headstock on either side. The original knobs have been replaced with reflectors with the gold inserts, which look nice against the burst, and the COA is no longer with the guitar. All in all no wear that is unsightly or effects the feel, it may even make the VOS finish a bit more convincing.
