2017 Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue

A fan favorite finish on the ever desirable R9 from the Custom Shop, originally sold by Wildwood Guitars. Killer figured maple on this one, nice and wide flame with very subtle grain pattern and flecking. The figuring is nice and uniform across the top with plenty of movement as you angle around it. A nice and dark rosewood fretboard compliment the dark edges of the BourbonBurst, one of the most popular finishes on a Historic. 2017 was the first year Gibson moved to a complete hide glue construction on the full line of historic reissues, a feature that had previously been reserved for the True Historic line of guitars. All the previous advancement in recreated the 50s Standard were carried into this period of production. Aniline back dye, long neck tenon, tubeless truss rod, period correct plastics, Custom Buckers with bumble bee caps, and all the aesthetic minutiae are present.

The guitar is in great shape over all, with a fair amount of play wear and signs of handling throughout. There is a small ding on the top near the treble side waist and another just next to the bridge volume control, with light scratches scattered across the top. The hardware is tarnished nicely to match the VOS finish, with the bridge pickup cover having some light scratches around the B & E pole pieces. The edge of the bass side bout has a small oblong nick and an area of scratches into the clear. The edge of the body binding has some lacquer chipped off in two spots near the end pin and the jackplate has the cracks that are so common on this plastic part. The back shows a fair amount of buckle rash and light scratching into the clear coat, with the back edge having a few nicks but nothing down to the wood. The binding shows the bleed from the back dye that is so ubiquitous on these guitars, particularly along the neck binding. There is a replaced pickup ring mounting screw on each pickup ring, strap locks have been install, and the pickguard is included in the case although the mounting screw that goes into the top is missing. The pickups are labelled on the underside, which indicates that they were most likely out of the guitar at some point in time although the solder joints do look very clean. All in all none of the wear is unsightly and this one is primed to be naturally aged, as the current condition would not cause anxiety about playing the guitar out.
