2022 Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Les Paul Custom Ultra Light Aged
A classic model from the Custom Shop, tastefully aged by Tom Murphy's Lab. The recent production of the ebony Custom features a finish that is slightly more glossy and shiny than previous aged iterations of the reissues, looking more true to the appearance of most of the vintage examples. The Ultra Light aging package keeps the wear to lacquer checking on the body and tarnish on the hardware, compared to the more extreme damage and exposed wood of the more heavily aged guitars. The lacquer checking on this example is very convincing, with horizontal checking along the top, back, neck, and headstock. There is enough space and variation around the guitar to look very correct. The antiquing on the binding and headstock inlay tie the aged look of the instrument together.
By this point in Historic production we see the most exacting level of detail in the recreation of the two pickup custom. Complete hide glue construction, the long neck tenon, tubeless truss rod, nylon nut, and all the most accurate period correct parts and placements. The single ring, waffle back Kluson tuners are a set unique to the Custom and set it apart from Standards. The guitar is in overall excellent condition, unsurprising for its age. There is no fret wear at all there are only a couple of dings in the neck at the 9th/10th fret. These are very light and are not felt while playing, it is hard to tell if they were not part of the aging.
