2007 Gibson Custom Shop 1954 Les Paul

A really cool Custom from a time when Custom Shop guitars were much more scarce with significantly lower production numbers, especially on off beat models like the '54 Custom with the Alnico P-90 in the neck. This one has clearly seen a lot of action and could be easily mistaken for an aged guitar or a vintage piece on first glance. The top has a good amount of dents and dings, light scratches, and pick wear on the guard. The hardware is well tarnished, with the gold worn off in many places, as well as some pitting and corrosion in a few spots. The back of the body has a nice sized island of buckle rash, clearly this guitar spent a good amount of time with somebody that liked big ol' belt buckles. There are a good amount of dings, dents and scratches across the back as well. The neck is fairly clean by comparison to the body. The headstock has a few dings along the edges and in the face of the headstock, with the truss rod cover having the upper loop broken away and the bottom loop cracked. The wear on the guitar is very pleasing overall, with nothing unsightly or wood shown through, and it give the warm feeling of a well played Gibson.

It is most likely that this instrument was someone's main guitar, probably gigged quite a bit, so it is not surprising to find a well executed re-fret on it as well as the addition of a bone nut. It plays beautifully across the scale with all the notes soundings out well and a good amount of sustain. A volume pot has been replaced, but the wiring harness looks untouched otherwise. It looks to have lived its life in the original Custom Shop case, which is equally worn, with a maroon interior and black tolex with the older CS logo with the star
