Fender Custom Shop 1969 Stratocaster Heavy Relic 2020 - Aztec Gold

Solid body Used Electric Guitar - Aztec Gold Finish

Product Description

A heavily relic'd reissue of the now iconic late 60s Strat from the masters at the Custom Shop, originally built for Bizarre Guitar in lovely Reno Nevada. A cool color way on a model traditionally seen in black or white, the Aztec Gold with a tortoise pickguard is a slick look on this guitar. Like most of the recent production Relics, the aging work is top notch and looks very convincing. There is plenty of lacquer checking all around the body with a ton of dings and a good amount of finish worn away in the usual spots, revealing the white undercoat along the edges of the wear. The team at the Custom Shop have done a great job of giving the hardware a good amount of tarnishing and oxidation, as well as discoloration on the plastics. The pickguard and pickup covers look particularly well aged on this one. The neck has the beautifully dark tinted lacquer that we all know and love, with the finish worn off on the back of the neck and nice amount of wear on the fretboard. That big ol' late 60s headstock has plenty of chips along the edge and finish worn away in a few spots.

The aesthetic appointments and construction on this instrument are all the classic '69 specs. A two piece maple neck/fretboard with the aforementioned big headstock that wears the fat Fender logo, with black font and gold outline, that is such an indicator of guitars from this era. Attached to this headstock is a set of Schaller tuners with the "F" stamp, which matches the stamp on the neck plate, another hallmark of late 60s Fender goodness.

Some more "under the hood" features yield modern playability and tone. The pickups are a set of handwound Fat 60s with a reverse wound, reverse polarity middle pickup that gives you hum cancelling operation in the 2 and 4 positions. These pickups are wired to a modern style harness, with the middle tone applying to the neck and middle pickup while the back tone covers the bridge pickup. The neck shape is the .69 "U" profile, while the fretboard has the more modern combination of a 9.5" radius and narrow/tall 6105 frets.
