Product Description
A fine example of a classic year for the Stratocaster in an equally classic Candy Apple Red finish, heavily Relic'd by the Custom Shop. The flat laminated, or slab, fretboard has a modern 9.5" radius with 6105 frets. The quarter sawn maple neck has the 60's oval "C" carve with beautifully tinted lacquer, which is worn away giving a nice broken in feel, and wears the desirable early spaghetti logo and clay dots. The pickup set is a handwound 60's Strat with a reverse wound, reverse polarity middle pickup which gives hum-cancelling operation in positions 2 & 4. The wiring set up is the middle tone for the neck and the back tone for the bridge and middle pickups.
The relic work on this one is really killer, with plenty of finish worn away completely in key spots. The areas of buckle wear, forearm wear, and pick wear are all down the the wood and expose the layers of gold and white primer along the edges. The gold primer is a nice touch, this was used on the metallic finishes on the originals, though sometimes you see silver instead. There is fine checking throughout, with a great pattern that is nice and subtle. All the hardware is well tarnished and there are plenty of chips along the headstock edge.
