Description
The Fairfield Circuitry Unpleasant Surprise is an experimental fuzz/gate pedal built around an unconventional circuit that exploits parasitic effects — the kind of unintended circuit behavior that most designers try to eliminate. Rather than smoothing those out, Fairfield leaned into them, tuning the pedal specifically to maximize the unpredictable, gated, and dynamically destructive qualities that result.
The character is aggressive and dynamic-crushing by design. It responds to playing dynamics in ways that feel natural despite the extreme processing — the gating and fuzz interact with your input level in ways that reward experimentation rather than predictable settings. It's not a subtle pedal, and it's not meant to be.
