The Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water is a K-field modulator — a non-cyclical pitch modulation pedal that produces vibrato, chorus, and flanger-adjacent textures with an organic, tape-like character. Rather than using a regular LFO to sweep a delay line, it randomly modulates a short time delay, creating pitch shifts that don't repeat in a predictable pattern.
The result is a modulation effect that feels less mechanical than standard chorus or vibrato pedals. The randomness keeps the movement from settling into a fixed rhythm, which gives it a natural, slightly unstable quality that works particularly well for ambient, lo-fi, and tape-influenced sounds.
