Product Description
Here we have a vintage 1935 D’Angelico Snakehead. This acoustic archtop is a fine-sounding example in very good overall condition.
It features a hand carved spruce top, hand carved figured maple back, figured maple sides, two piece maple neck, ebony fingerboard and an ebony bridge. It has block inlays, Grover tuners and a trapeze tailpiece. The scale length is 24 3/4” and the nut width is 1 11/16”. The lower bout is 16 9/16” wide.
This guitar has a replacement pickguard and has been refretted at some point. The top shows heavy checking and appears to have been lightly oversprayed long ago. The finish is original otherwise, as are the rest of the parts. The binding is in great shape and there are no cracks or issues.
The guitar weighs 5lbs 1oz. The neck measures .880 to 1.010 at the 1st and 9th. It has a full, rounded C neck profile without too much shoulder. The guitar plays effortlessly and truly sings with a fine acoustic sound, plenty of natural reverb and colorful overtones. It drives easily and has a long decay. It is warmer and less jaunty than some of the other big band era guitars we’ve played, and is one of the finest sounding archtops we’ve had.
Includes the original hardshell case. Ships in a modern hardshell case for added protection.
