Product Description

Here we have a really nice 2003 Gibson Custom Shop '58 Les Paul with a Brazilian fingerboard! This guitar is well-preserved and in excellent condition.

The 2003 model year saw a revamp of the Historic Les Paul, with a number of features changing for greater historical accuracy. The truss rod route moved away from the nut, the Burstbucker pickups were introduced, and Gibson began using CTS pots and bumblebee caps inside. The tailpiece was lightweight aluminum, some plastic parts were upgraded, the inlay material became more antique in color, and the trapezoids now came to a sharp point. The guitars were offered in three colors: Washed Cherry, Faded Tobacco, and Iced Tea. They were predominantly gloss guitars, though a more expensive Custom Authentic option was available, which was similar to the later VOS finish. Additionally, Gibson began using Brazilian rosewood for the fretboards, a wood choice that initially seemed permanent, but would soon be discontinued.

In 2003, the last serial number '58 Reissue with a Brazilian board was 83256. This included Les Paul Standards and Juniors, as well as a Korina Explorer. Our guitar offered here is serial number 83187. It appears to be all original and in excellent condition. It's a case queen that does not look to have been played much at all. There is some oxidation on the hardware, a few light finish scuffs and other signs of handling. There is also a little bit of light scratching on the side near the pickguard mount. Though for being 20+ years old, it mostly looks new from the factory.

This guitar weighs 9lbs 1oz. The neck measures .920 to .1020 at the 1st and 12th. It has a fairly large neck like most '58s of the time. It has a full shoulder with a D type of profile. It has a plain maple cap which was the spec at the time. The Brazilian is dark and rich with a light wave to the wood grain. It's articulate and resonant with good sustain. It has a tight mid-range with good top end clarity. Overall a fine example with a great-looking board!

Ships in the original hardshell case and includes the COA, warranty card, hang tag, and custom care kit.
