What Is A Standard Historic Les Paul
The "Standard Historic" Les Paul manufactured in 2015 and 2016 carries the same specs as a 2014 Historic Reissue Les Paul. In 2015, Gibson Custom Shop changed various features of their Historic Reissue guitars and re-named the Les Paul line "True Historic". The newly revamped True Historic Les Pauls also carried a hefty price increase resulting in backlash from the community. In an attempt to quell consumer frustrations, Gibson resumed production of the pre-True Historic models (2014 specs) at the original price point, but dubbed them "Standard Historic" Les Pauls. The Standard Historic was manufactured for two years alongside the True Historic during 2015 and 2016 and were available in 1954, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, and 1960 reissues. In 2017 the line was simplified and all Les Pauls featured the True Historic specs, but at the more affordable Standard Historic pricing. The Standard Historic is recognizable by its serial number which beings with an "R" for reissue.
