Brand New Vintage Guitars — Handbuilt in Japan and Now Available in Brooklyn, NYC

Tone Wolf is now an Authorized Creek Guitars dealer.

We don't take on new brands lightly, we're here to carry gear we actually believe in, gear we'd buy ourselves. Creek Guitars cleared that bar easily, essentially the moment we got our hands on the first one.

So Who Is Creek Guitars?

Creek Guitars is a Japanese guitar company with a singular, obsessive mission: to build brand-new guitars that feel, sound, and look exactly like exceptional vintage instruments, not just vintage-inspired, or vintage-styled. They call it Brand New Vintage Guitars, and that phrase is not marketing copy, it's a technical philosophy.

The people behind Creek have spent years as Japan's premier high-end vintage guitar dealer, with thousands of rare and boutique instruments passing through their hands. They started building new instruments because they knew exactly what made the great ones great — and they believed they could reproduce it. What came out of that process is the Creek Guitars Time Machine Series, and it is unlike almost anything else being built today.

The core philosophy is worth understanding before you even pick one up. Creek doesn't set out to make a modern reinterpretation of a vintage classic. They don't want to take a 1957 J-45 and "improve" it for today's players. They want to rebuild it — precisely, faithfully, with the same materials, the same geometry, the same finishing logic — so that you get the actual experience of playing a fine vintage guitar, without the fragility, the provenance anxiety, or the five-figure price tag.

The Time Machine Series: Three Models, One Philosophy

The current Creek lineup consists of three instruments in the Time Machine Series. Each one is built around a specific vintage reference point, studied in exhaustive detail before a single piece of wood is cut.

Creek CJFG 1957 — The Slope Shoulder Acoustic

The CJFG 1957 was built by studying an original 1957 J-45 in meticulous detail — taking precise measurements, collecting data, and creating accurate blueprints before anything else happened. The result is a slope-shoulder acoustic that nails the look, feel, and response of one of the most beloved acoustic guitars ever made.

The top is solid torrefied Sitka spruce — torrefied to Creek's own specifications to replicate the aged, opened-up quality that takes decades to develop naturally in a vintage top. An optional torrefied Adirondack spruce top is also available for players who want even more headroom and projection. The back and sides are solid mahogany. The Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, the large celluloid tortoise pickguard, the single ring rosette, and the aged Kluson 3-per-plate tuners are all period-correct details chosen for their authenticity, not their aesthetics.

The neck carve deserves its own mention. Creek pays particular attention to making their necks feel immediately comfortable and familiar — especially to players who have had the rare pleasure of holding a truly excellent vintage instrument. If you've ever picked up a late-'50s Gibson acoustic and felt that ineffable rightness in your fretting hand, the CJFG 1957 is designed to put you back in that exact moment.

Key specs: Solid torrefied Sitka (or Adirondack) spruce top · Solid mahogany back & sides · One-piece mahogany neck · Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard & bridge · 42.5mm nut width · 625mm scale · Aged sunburst finish · Hard case included

Creek CSJ 1959 — The Decorative Round Shoulder

Where the CJFG 1957 draws on the iconic J-45, the CSJ 1959 takes the 1959 Southern Jumbo as its reference point — a guitar celebrated for its powerful low end, its broad dynamic range, and its distinctive decorative appointments that set it apart from its sibling models.

The CSJ 1959 carries over the torrefied Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany construction, but the details shift to match its reference instrument: a double ring rosette instead of single, parallelogram fingerboard inlays instead of dots, and Kluson aged single tuners in a 3-per-side configuration. The period-correct X-bracing is tuned to bring out that rich, muscular low end and powerful volume that made the Southern Jumbo a favorite of roots, country, and americana players for decades.

If you've ever wanted the full-throated authority of a slope-shoulder jumbo without paying 2-3 times more for an original in playable condition, the CSJ 1959 is a serious conversation.

Key specs: Solid torrefied Sitka spruce top · Solid mahogany back & sides · One-piece mahogany neck · Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard & bridge · Parallelogram inlays · 42.5mm nut width · 625mm scale · Aged sunburst finish · Hard case included

Creek CTF 1959 AGED — The Semi-Hollow Electric

Creek doesn't only build acoustics. The CTF 1959 AGED is a semi-hollow electric guitar built around the late-'50s aesthetic — specifically, the kind of slope-shoulder, thinline semi-hollow electric that defined a generation of American music and has never really gone out of style.

What makes the CTF 1959 especially compelling is the pickup situation. Rather than sourcing an off-the-shelf humbucker, Creek winds their own pickups by hand — vintage PAF-style humbuckers designed to replicate the output, coil scatter, and tonal character of original Patent Applied For pickups from the late 1950s. The control layout is classic: two volume, two tone, using CTS 500K audio taper pots and period-correct bumblebee capacitors. The 3-way toggle, the ABR-1 style bridge, the lightweight aluminum stop tailpiece, the aged Kluson tuners — every detail is chosen from the same reverence for the era that drives the acoustic models.

The body is laminated maple — which is correct for this style of vintage construction, and which contributes to the CTF's feedback resistance and that particular semi-hollow chime. The Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard has rolled edges, which is a small detail with enormous playability implications — it's that worn-in, broken-in feel that players spend years waiting for on a new guitar. On the CTF, it's there from day one.

Key specs: Laminated maple body (top, back, sides) · One-piece mahogany neck · Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges · 42mm nut width · 628mm scale · Creek Custom Hand-Wound Vintage PAF-style humbuckers · CTS 500K pots · Bumblebee capacitors · ABR-1 bridge · Aged Kluson tuners · Aged finish in Vintage Blonde or Vintage Sunburst · Boblen hard case included

The Aging Process — This Is Where Creek Really Gets Deep

Every Creek guitar is aged individually by skilled artisans who have a deep, working knowledge of vintage guitars. Creek approaches the aging process as a technical and sonic challenge, not a cosmetic one.

The finish is intentionally applied thin and hard — replicating the way decades of time transform a guitar's lacquer into something that vibrates differently, resonates differently, and feels completely different under your hands than the thick modern finishes on most new guitars. Creek monitors the layers of finish paint to achieve the correct stiffness — because the right stiffness in the finish is part of what produces honest vintage tone. Weather checking, authentic wear patterns, and a warm aged patina are added by hand, one guitar at a time.

The torrefaction process used on the acoustic tops works on the same principle from a different angle. Torrefied wood has been heat-treated to replicate the chemical changes that occur naturally in aged tonewoods over decades. The result is a top that's lighter, stiffer, and more resonant than an untreated top of the same species — and that responds immediately with the kind of opened-up, harmonically complex voice that players normally associate with instruments that have been played and loved for fifty years.

Put together, Creek's approach to finish and materials means you're not just buying a guitar that looks old. You're buying one that sounds old — in the best possible sense of that word.
