Grand concert Vintage Acoustic Guitar
with Adirondack Spruce Top, Brazilian Rosewood Back and Sides, Ebony Fingerboard, Pearl Top Trim, Pearl Rosette Center Ring, Converted to Fingerstyle - Natural Finish
Product Description
Here we have a beautiful 1935 Martin 00-40H vintage acoustic guitar. This Hawaiian model has been converted to fingerstyle and plays wonderfully. It is in very good condition overall.
This guitar at some point had a pickup installed, and there are two small holes in the top between the bridge and soundhole that have been filled (one is through the pickguard). Additionally, there appear to have been controls for the pickup on the lower edge of the top and there are two patches. The patches themselves appear to be mostly topical to cover smaller holes from what can be seen internally. The bracing inside appears undisturbed by the pickup modification. There is minor finish touchup around the top patches, and some light topical finish work on the back of the neck. Additionally the bridge is a well-crafted replacement. The bridge and conversion were reportedly done by David Eichelbaum.
The guitar does not appear to have any cracks. The original finish is in very good shape beyond what is noted above. The neck set and fretwork look good. The frets feel great while playing. The tuners appear original. It weighs 3lbs 9oz. The neck has a bit of a D shape with a nice shoulder and just the hint of a V apex higher up the register. It measures .875 to 1.080 at the 1st and 9th frets.
Tonally this one is all you'd expect: warm and clear bass note, glassy top end, and plenty of warm mid-range overtones. It sustains quite well and has excellent volume for its size. It has a bit more power and presence than a single 0 model (as it should), but still presents as an intimate parlor instrument.
Overall an excellent example that is ready to be played. Ships in a modern hardshell case.
