Product Description

Here we have a vintage 1965 Fender Jazzmaster with a transitional bound neck and dot inlay fretboard. It is in excellent condition with the hang tag and original accessories.

This guitar appears to be all original. The finish is vibrant and glossy. The headstock shows light checking on the face and back. The body has a handful of light dings on the top and some around the edges. There are some light surface marks and scratches, mostly noticeable when the light catches. There are small chips at the edge of the neck plate, but otherwise there does not appear to be any real damage, other chips, or exposed wood. The guard shows light pick marks. The hardware is quite clean, as is the back of the neck and the back of the body. The original large frets are in good condition.

The neck dates to September 1965. The grey bottom pickups also date to 1965 and the electronics all appear to be untouched original components. The hang tag is serialized 106820 like the guitar and is dated 10-7-65.

This one weighs 8lbs 1oz. The neck measures .900 to .880 at the 1st and 12th. Interestingly, it's a touch thicker down by the 1st fret as the neck transitions into the headstock. From the 2nd fret on up, the guitar is a consistent C shape profile without much depth variance. It is rounded without much of a shoulder. The neck is bound, but the guitar has pearl dot fingerboard inlays making it more rare than earlier unbound dot inlay guitars or later bound block inlay guitars.

This one plays smoothly and easily up and down the entire neck. It sets up quite well and feels good under the picking hand. The guitar has a bit of a cavernous sound off the body, with a warm and mellow mid range, but nice top end clarity. It has a touch of natural reverb and the strings are prone to growling when you dig in. The guitar has a pleasant vintage scent about it too.

This is a wonderful time capsule, not quite mint, but close enough for jazz as they say. Includes the original hardshell case which is also in excellent condition, along with the bridge cover, tremolo arm, hang tag, strap, and cable.
